Kayali's Vanilla Candy Rock Sugar | 42 is a gourmand eau de parfum, first released in 2024. The brand calls it "a lighter, youthful take" on its cult Vanilla | 28. It's built around candied pear, bubble gum and vanilla, finished with tonka, sandalwood and patchouli. It has gone up in price since launch.

What Does Vanilla Candy Rock Sugar 42 Smell Like?

These are the notes Kayali published at launch:

• Top: candied pear, violet leaves, rum, marshmallow, vanilla cream
• Heart: jasmine, labdanum, white caramel, bubble gum, jellybean
• Base: tonka, vetiver, sandalwood, cashmere woods, patchouli, rock sugar

Kayali's own description focuses on "glazed candied pear and bubble gum" over a "vanillic explosion at the heart", made warmer by tonka bean, sandalwood and patchouli. It says the scent was inspired by founder Mona Kattan's love of candy.

How Is It Different From Vanilla | 28?

Kayali positions 42 as the lighter, more playful version of Vanilla | 28. Our take: from the note lists, 42 leans fruity and candy-like, with its pear, bubble gum and jellybean. Vanilla | 28 is known as the richer, ambery vanilla. If 28 feels too heavy for daytime, 42 is the one to sample. We haven't compared them side by side on skin.

How Much Has the Price Changed?

Confirmed: on September 25, 2026, Kayali's US site listed the 100 ml at $150 (up from $125 at launch) and the 50 ml at $105 (up from $89). The 10 ml miniature is unchanged at $32. A 10 ml travel spray ($29) and a 1.5 ml sample ($4) are also available.

Is It Worth Sampling First?

Our take: yes. At $4, the 1.5 ml sample is the cheapest way to find out whether the bubble-gum note works for you before paying $105 or more for a full bottle.

What We Couldn't Confirm

Kayali's product page doesn't list the full notes today, so the pyramid above is the one published at launch. We also didn't check prices outside the US.

Tom Ford's Vanille Fatale Eau de Parfum is a Private Blend vanilla fragrance with mahogany wood, roasted barley and coffee, sold in a chocolate-brown bottle with a honey-tinted outer layer. It was promoted in February 2024 at $250 for 1 oz and $395 for 1.7 oz on Sephora, and Tom Ford's site now lists the 1.7 oz at $405.

What Does Vanille Fatale Smell Like?

Tom Ford describes it as "a beguiling, deeply seductive scent." Its site lists:

• Top and heart: Safraleine, frangipani and coffee absolute
• Base: mahogany wood accord, roasted barley and vanilla resinoid

Our February 2024 post described the vanilla resinoid as the star, with a mix of deep woods, coffee and roasted barley around it.

Our take: the mix of coffee and roasted barley points to a dark, slightly bitter vanilla, not a sugary one. We haven't smelled it.

Is Vanille Fatale a New Fragrance?

Not necessarily. Fragrantica lists a Tom Ford Vanille Fatale dating to 2017 with a longer note list that includes rum, myrrh, saffron, plum and tobacco. We can't tell how the 2024 version relates to it: a reformulation, a new edition or the same scent in a new bottle. The 2024 announcement stressed the new chocolate-brown bottle design.

What Changed Since 2024, and How Much Does It Cost Now?

Tom Ford's page lists the 1.7 fl oz at $405, $10 above the February 2024 price of $395, and mentions a 1.0 fl oz option without a price. It limits orders to 8 per customer.

Kayali's Yum Pistachio Gelato | 33 is a gourmand Eau de Parfum Intense built around pistachio gelato, hazelnut, sweet rum, marshmallow, whipped cream and cotton candy. Our March 2023 post listed only those notes without naming the fragrance, and they match this scent.

What Does It Smell Like?

Kayali's full note pyramid is:

• Top: pistachio gelato, hazelnut, Italian bergamot, sweet rum, cardamom
• Middle: white peach, muguet, jasmine, raspberry, white peony, green pear, geranium
• Base: whipped cream, marshmallow, cotton candy, Turkish delight, cocoa, cedarwood, sandalwood, tonka

Kayali describes "a delicious explosion of irresistible and edible notes" with an "unforgettably intense, gourmand scent trail."

Our take: the base of whipped cream, marshmallow and cotton candy is what makes it read as a dessert scent. The floral middle (peach, jasmine, peony) may soften the sweetness for some wearers, though we haven't worn it.

The 1.5 mL size is a cheap way to test a fragrance this sweet before buying a full bottle.

What Does the "33" Mean?

Search results for Kayali's site describe the number as a nod to the 33 rounds of formulation the brand says it took to reach the balance of warmth and sweetness. We couldn't confirm that on the page we read.
