L'Artisan Parfumeur 33 Abyssae L'Extrait bottle with black sphere cap and teal sea-sponge label on an off-white background

If you love the fresh eucalyptus-and-rose contrast of Abyssae Eau de Parfum, a deeper version has arrived. L'Artisan Parfumeur has unveiled Abyssae L'Extrait, a more intense take on bottle number 33 from the brand's La Botanique collection. Created by perfumer Daphné Bugey, the new extrait explores what the house calls "a living darkness": bright eucalyptus cutting through smoky incense, then settling into a rich, amber woody trail.

What's New: One Signature, Two Depths

L'Artisan Parfumeur describes the Abyssae line as "one signature, two depths." The original Eau de Parfum pairs eucalyptus with rose and cashmeran for an airy, enveloping feel. Abyssae L'Extrait pushes everything further, with:

  • More vibrant incense: the brand lists incense (Boswellia sacra) as a key note
  • A more sensual rose: reshaped to feel warmer and closer to the skin
  • A dark, resinous woody trail: sandalwood, cypriol and ambergris anchor the composition

In Bugey's own words: "To reinvent Abyssae, I intensified its contrasts. I immersed myself in the vibrant freshness of eucalyptus resin and incense, sculpted a more sensual rose, and anchored it all in a resinous woody depth, where sandalwood, cypriol and ambergris resonate with intensity."

The result is a scent of contrasts: cool and bright at the start, then shadowy, smoky and textured.

The Bottle

The extrait keeps the La Botanique look, with a dark teal label marked "33 Abyssae L'Extrait" and a black round cap. It comes in an illustrated box decorated with seaweed and coral motifs, a nod to the fragrance's oceanic name. The brand also offers exclusive Abyssae L'Extrait gift sets. Pricing for these hasn't been published, so check the official site for details.

How to Wear Abyssae L'Extrait

  • Start small: with an extrait, a couple of sprays on pulse points (wrists, neck, inner elbows) is a good starting point
  • Layer the duo: already own the Eau de Parfum? Try it on fabric and the extrait on skin to play with the brand's "two depths" idea
  • Pick your moments: the eucalyptus-and-incense opening suits crisp autumn days, while the ambery woody base feels made for evenings
  • Test before you buy: smoky, resinous scents change a lot from skin to skin, so live with a sample for a full day if you can

Is It Worth the Price?

At £295 / $435 for 75 ml, Abyssae L'Extrait is a luxury purchase. It suits fans of incense fragrances, woody ambers and fresh-meets-dark compositions. If the original Abyssae felt too light for you, this is the version to try.
