Scarlett Johansson's The Outset Skincare Is Closing: A Look Back at the Brand

B&W portrait of a woman in an off-shoulder knit beside The Outset cleanser, serum and moisturizer with a dried flower

The Outset, the skincare brand Scarlett Johansson co-founded with Kate Foster Lengyel in 2022, is closing, the brand announced on 28 September 2026. "After an incredible journey, The Outset has made the decision to wind down operations," the message on theoutset.com reads. "We're so grateful to everyone who welcomed us into their routines and supported us along the way." Online shopping at theoutset.com has ended, but existing orders will still be processed as usual. No reason has been given publicly.

When Did The Outset Skincare Launch?

No exact launch day was given. The Outset was introduced to press in late February 2022 and launched on theoutset.com in March 2022, with Sephora entry planned for April. Goop and Nordstrom later stocked it too. The closure was announced nearly four years and seven months later, on Monday 28 September 2026.

Price

  • US: $32–$54 for the five launch products (2022 prices).
  • UK: Not yet confirmed.
  • Europe: Not yet confirmed.

The range later grew to roughly 14 products, adding more cleansers, moisturisers, serums, masks, oils and lip products. The Firming Vegan Collagen Prep Serum was the brand's number-one bestseller up to the closure. Collagen-positioned skincare is still launching: UK skincare expert Caroline Hirons released Caroline Hirons The Collagen Support Kit on 30 September 2026, two days after The Outset's announcement.

Where to Buy

  • US: Online shopping at theoutset.com has ended, though existing orders are still being fulfilled. NewBeauty reports the brand is still listed at some retailers, but no product pages are confirmed.
  • UK: Not yet confirmed.
  • Europe: Not yet confirmed.
  • Other markets: Not yet confirmed.

What Makes The Outset Different?

  • Positioning: the brand called its products the "classic white T of skincare", simple staples designed to pair with other brands.
  • Signature ingredient: every product contained Hyaluroset complex, which the brand described as a botanical alternative to hyaluronic acid.
  • Founder approach: Johansson kept her own name off the brand and has no personal Instagram account, so the line could stand on its own.

Formula and Packaging Details

According to the brand, its three-step Daily Essential Regimen (cleanse, prep, moisturise) mirrored Johansson's own routine, and Hyaluroset complex hydrates, plumps and smooths. The brand said its products were clinically and allergy tested, dermatologist-tested, vegan, fragrance-free, and free of gluten and nut allergens, and that it excluded 2,700 potentially harmful ingredients. Regimen products were refillable, and packaging used glass, bio-resin and post-consumer recycled materials. The brand also pledged 1% of annual sales to environmental nonprofits.

How The Outset Started

Johansson was an ambassador for other beauty brands before saying she was "done representing other people's ideal beauty standards." She had acne-prone "problem skin" through her 20s, so she chose skincare over colour or fragrance, and she developed the idea for about five years. Just before the pandemic she met Kate Foster Lengyel, a beauty veteran from Victoria's Secret and Juicy Couture, who became co-founder and CEO. Foster Lengyel chose the name to signal new beginnings. The brand was funded by The Najafi Companies.

Before the Closure

In January 2026, Forbes reported that Johansson was still focused on the brand nearly four years in and was teasing new launches. That same month, The Outset added the Total Clarity Dark Spot Serum. In the weeks before the announcement, it ran an end-of-summer sale with markdowns of up to 50%.

Leadership Changes and Market Context

According to Business of Fashion, Foster Lengyel stepped down in April 2025. Former Allies of Skin president Karen Raghavan then served as fractional chief executive on a contract basis from May to August 2026.

In 2023 Johansson called skincare "a very saturated market." The Outset launched during a wave of celebrity brands that included Rare Beauty, JLo Beauty, LolaVie and r.e.m. beauty. Its closure follows other celebrity beauty exits: in February, Gwen Stefani's GXVE Beauty stopped being sold at Sephora after its online store had shut. For current launches, see our skincare releases page.

If You Use The Outset Products

  • Existing orders should still be processed and fulfilled.
  • Remaining stock at third-party retailers is not confirmed, so check before assuming a product is available.
  • Alternatives: look for fragrance-free formulas made for sensitive skin with similar key ingredients, such as squalane, niacinamide or vitamin C. Patch-test anything new before adding it to your routine.

The holder is a black cat in a purple witch hat with a gold buckle and bright green eyes. It is paired with a purple-tinted bottle. Scent Theory lists the key notes as midnight blackberry and candied sugar, a fruity and sweet pairing.

Molten Marshmallow

The holder is a bandage-wrapped mummy with a blue face stripe. Scent Theory lists the notes as "mummified" vanilla and gooey marshmallow. Marshmallow also appears in other seasonal body care this year, including Merry Marshmallow in the Method Holiday Body Washes.

Twisted Caramel Apple

The holder is a purple Frankenstein's monster with a green face and a bolt-style clip detail. Scent Theory pairs green apple with what it calls "spooky caramel".

Chanel Éclat Premier Bright Silky Cream 2026: Release Date, Prices & What's New

CHANEL Éclat Premier Bright Silky Cream in a clear glass jar with a mirrored silver square lid on a white background

CHANEL has launched the ÉCLAT PREMIER Bright Silky Cream, a refillable moisturizer priced at $230 (US) and £170 (UK). It launched first in Asia in April 2026 and is now available in the US and UK, where chanel.com labels it "New." According to CHANEL, the cream brightens, unifies and soothes the skin, targeting the look of dark spots, post-acne marks and redness. The brand says it builds on more than 30 years of clinical research into both preventing and correcting the look of dark spots, and that it is designed to preserve and revive the complexion's first radiance.

What's New

The key active in the formula is TXC, a molecule built on patented technology exclusive to CHANEL. It is patented in Europe, Japan and the US, and appears on the ingredient list as cetyl tranexamate HCl. According to CHANEL, TXC targets 8 factors behind the appearance of hyperpigmentation, including pigmentation linked to aging, sun exposure and acne.

CHANEL says it tested the formula using 3D skin bioprinting technology. According to the brand, the results showed efficacy on all three dimensions of dark spots: intensity, size and shape.

The formula also contains two supporting ingredients:

  • Vitamin E, which CHANEL says boosts radiance.
  • Allantoin, which according to the brand calms the look of redness and smooths roughness.

The ingredient list also includes squalane and niacinamide. According to CHANEL, up to 80% of the formula is naturally derived (ISO 16128).

What the Brand Says

CHANEL says redness looks reduced right after application. In clinical testing on 34 women over 8 weeks, the brand reports:

  • A complexion that looks 41% more radiant and 3x more even
  • The appearance of redness reduced by 50%
  • Skin that feels 82% more comfortable (self-assessment)
  • Hydration that lasts up to 8 hours (instrumental evaluation of 15 people)

Good to know: the formula contains parfum (fragrance). CHANEL labels the cream suitable for sensitive skin, but people whose skin reacts to fragrance may want to patch test first.

How to Apply

CHANEL recommends using the cream morning and evening on the face and neck:

  1. Apply after the ÉCLAT PREMIER Bright Treatment Serum.
  2. Dot the cream onto each cheek, the forehead and the chin.
  3. Smooth it from the center of the face outward, then down onto the neck.
  4. For extra nourishment, finish with the ÉCLAT PREMIER Bright 3-in-1 Oil.

Price and Value

The cream comes in a refillable jar, and the refill pod is sold separately. The refill costs $200 (US) and £148 (UK), compared with $230 and £170 for the full jar.

These are the US prices on chanel.com for the rest of the ÉCLAT PREMIER line:

  • Bright Treatment Serum, 1 fl oz: $235
  • Bright 3-in-1 Oil, 1.7 fl oz: $165
  • Bright Milky Essence, 3.38 fl oz: $160

innisfree Green Tea Matcha Mist: What's New, Release Date & Price

innisfree Green Tea Matcha Mist: What's New, Release Date & Price

Innisfree Green Tea Matcha Mist bottle lying on a cup of iced matcha latte as milk pours over it from a steel pitcher

innisfree has launched the Green Tea Matcha Mist, a 90 mL limited-edition face mist now listed on innisfree Singapore; price and release date have not yet been announced. The Korean skincare brand describes it as "a refreshing hydration boost, inspired by the fresh energy of Jeju matcha."

What's New: A Matcha Twist on innisfree's Green Tea Line

innisfree built its name on Jeju green tea, and this launch brings Jeju matcha into the spotlight. According to the bottle's label, the formula features three headline ingredients:

  • Super Green Tea™, innisfree's signature green tea ingredient
  • Jeju Matcha, the inspiration behind the new mist
  • Ceramide

innisfree Singapore's listing names Super Green Tea™ and Green Tea Ceramide as key ingredients and describes them as "the key ingredients of Green Tea Ceramide Milk." innisfree hasn't shared ingredient percentages. The campaign tagline is Matcha. Mist. Refresh.

What the Brand Says

According to innisfree, the Green Tea Matcha Mist is "a lightweight, on-the-go milky mist with an ultra-fine spray." The brand makes these claims for it:

  • It hydrates instantly and replenishes moisture "in as little as 3 seconds."
  • It helps soothe stressed and dehydrated skin and supports the skin's moisture barrier.
  • It keeps skin refreshed and visibly dewy for up to 24 hours.
  • It can be used before or over makeup without feeling heavy or greasy.

innisfree says the mist is suitable for oily, combination, sensitive and acne-prone skin. The brand says the formula has completed a non-acnegenic test and has been tested on sensitive and rosacea-prone skin. innisfree also says the mist gives richer, longer-lasting hydration than a typical water mist, with a lighter feel than cream-based mists.

The Packaging

The green-to-white gradient bottle has a green spray pump and resembles layered matcha and milk. The campaign plays on this, styling the bottle on top of an iced matcha latte as milk is poured in. That is only styling: this is a skincare mist, not a drink, and it is not meant to be consumed.

How It Differs From the Green Tea Ceramide Mist

innisfree already sells a separate Green Tea Ceramide Mist in the US. It launched in August 2026 at $17 for 90ml. innisfree Singapore's Matcha Mist listing includes FAQ answers that refer to the Green Tea Ceramide Mist. One answer describes it as "specifically formulated to deliver rich, Milk-inspired hydration and barrier care in a lightweight, sprayable texture." The listing doesn't say whether the Green Tea Matcha Mist uses the same formula, and innisfree has not yet explained how the two compare.

How to Use It

innisfree positions the mist as an on-the-go refresher: "at your desk, in your bag, between plans – just mist and go." Its official directions are to spray an adequate amount evenly onto the face whenever skin feels dry, tight, dull or stressed. The mist can be used after cleansing, before or over makeup, or throughout the day. innisfree adds that very dry skin may still benefit from a moisturiser afterwards. General face-mist tips:

  • Hold it at arm's length and spray in an "X" or "T" shape for even, fine coverage.
  • Close your eyes while spritzing.
  • Pat, don't rub. Gently press the mist in with clean fingertips.
  • Layer after mist. Following with your usual moisturiser can help keep skin feeling comfortable.
  • Size: at 90 mL, it fits on a desk or in a tote.

Release Date & Price

innisfree hasn't announced a release date or price for the Green Tea Matcha Mist. The mist is listed as a limited edition on innisfree's Singapore online store. It does not appear on innisfree US's Green Tea collection page. It also has not been seen on innisfree's Malaysia or India online stores. We'll update this post when details are confirmed.

Dior Capture PDRN-Shot: Price, Clinical Results & How to Use

Silver Dior Capture PDRN-Shot tube with pearlescent liquid ribbon swirling around it on a gradient grey backdrop

Dior has launched Dior Capture PDRN-Shot, a 20 mL intensive radiance revitalizer priced at $109 (US) and £72 (UK). It joins the maison's "Derma-Shots" range. According to Dior, the formula is inspired by dermo-aesthetic in-clinic procedures, and one tube is designed as a one-month "shot" for more radiant, smoother-looking skin. Charlize Theron appears in the campaign imagery.

What Makes PDRN-Shot Different

The headline ingredient is PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide), an ingredient associated with regenerative aesthetic treatments. Instead of the more familiar salmon-derived version, Dior uses a plant-derived PDRN sourced from a fragment of rice DNA. The brand says it is 4.6x more powerful than salmon PDRN (in vitro test on ingredient). According to Dior, a pro-penetrating exo-liposome (patent pending FR3144515) diffuses it continuously into the skin for up to 8 hours.

Dior says this is the first time it has paired PDRN with vitamin Cg (ascorbyl glucoside) and niacinamide. According to the brand, vitamin Cg reduces the appearance of dark spots, and niacinamide refines the appearance of pores and improves texture. A Madonna lily (Lilium candidum) bulb extract completes the formula. The ingredient list also includes hydrolyzed DNA and jasmine flower extract. Dior says pearlescent particles and a tensing oil give an instant glow and tightening effect on application.

The Clinical Results

According to Dior, a clinical evaluation by a dermatologist on 30 subjects found:

  • +25% radiance instantly, holding for 8 hours
  • –25% visibility of dark spots in 1 month
  • +65% smoothness and +62% radiance in 1 shot (1 shot = 1 month of use)
  • 2x smoother, firmer and more radiant skin when used with Dior Capture Le Sérum, compared with the serum alone. Radiance and smoothness were measured after 2 weeks and firmness after 1 month.

How to Use Dior Capture PDRN-Shot

Dior recommends applying PDRN-Shot morning and evening to the entire face. It goes on after Dior Capture Le Sérum and before Dior Capture Creme, to complement both. One 20 mL tube is designed as a one-month intensive ritual.
