What's New

The brush itself is not new. Cecily Braden already sells The Lymphatic Brush under the Cecily Braden name in two sizes. The new part is an Epicutis-branded version, which Epicutis says is "exclusively available with" the Bodycare Simplified Set.

Epicutis's image shows the brush in a half-moon shape. It has a dark wood-grain top with the Epicutis logo, amber flexible fibres and rows of rounded brown nubs. The design matches Cecily Braden's Large brush.

Epicutis has not said whether its Lipid Body Treatment ($225 on epicutis.com) will be in the set.

What the Brand Says

Epicutis describes the tool as "the original, patented, and award-winning brush." According to Epicutis, it is designed to bring lymphatic drainage into an at-home body care routine. The brand says its textured bristles gently engage the skin to encourage tissue-fluid movement. It also says the brush supports the body's natural drainage and metabolic processes for "healthy, vibrant-looking skin."

Cecily Braden says the brush is "not a dry brush, a make-up, or a cleansing brush." Cecily Braden calls it a draining device, and says its bristle pattern and density grip the skin to target the superficial lymph vessels just under the surface. According to Cecily Braden, used with Braden's own techniques, it mimics the passive contractions of those vessels to stimulate lymph flow. The design is patent-protected in the US, EU, Australia, Canada and the UK.

Key Details: Sizes and Use

  • Large: for the face, neck, crown and full body, with shorter, firmer bristles. This is the size the Epicutis edition matches.
  • Small: for the face, with longer, softer bristles.
  • Cecily Braden publishes face and body tutorials with step-by-step routines.

Cecily Braden advises caution, or a changed routine, in these cases:

  • Bronchitis: don't use the brush directly over the sternum.
  • Menstruation: it may make periods heavier.
  • Raised moles: work around them.
  • Low blood pressure: keep sessions shorter.
  • Hyperactive thyroid: avoid working directly on the thyroid.
  • Other conditions: the same list also includes deep vein thrombosis, congestive heart failure and acute infection or inflammation.
