In early 2024, NYX Professional Makeup added Cherry Spice to its Duck Plump High Pigment Lip Plumping Gloss. It's a cherry red, labelled shade 19 on the packaging. Here's how the formula plumps, what's in it and what it costs now.

How Does Duck Plump Plump Your Lips?

It uses ingredients that warm the lips and make them tingle. The ingredient list on Ulta includes:

• Capsicum frutescens (chili pepper) fruit extract and ginger root extract, the "spicy" ingredients NYX promotes
• Vanillyl butyl ether, a warming agent
• Palmitoyl tripeptide-1, a peptide common in lip-plumping formulas

NYX says it gives an "instant and overtime" plump. Our take: the instant effect comes from the warming ingredients briefly increasing blood flow, which fades within hours. Longer-term claims for peptides in lip products are modest at best.

Is the Tingle Safe?

NYX's own warning says a temporary tingling sensation is normal. It tells you to stop using it if it's too uncomfortable, and not to apply it to chapped, damaged or sensitive lips. Take that seriously with a pepper-based plumper.

What Does Cherry Spice Look Like?

The official images show a saturated, glossy cherry red that stays true on light, medium and deep lips. Because it's one of the 16 high-pigment shades, one coat gives real color rather than a sheer tint. NYX pitches Duck Plump as "no need for multiple layers".

What Other Shades Are There?

Ulta lists all 18, including Clearly Spicy, Bangin' Bare, Bubblegum Bae, Pick Me Pink, Brick of Time, Hall of Flame, Twice the Spice, Wine Not and Pure Plum.p. Check the swatches on Ulta for each one.

What Do Reviewers Say?

Confirmed: Duck Plump averaged 3.6 out of 5 on Ulta on September 25, 2026 across all shades. Our take: plumping glosses often get mixed reviews because people react to the tingle very differently.
