NARS's Sweet Sensations Collection is a December 2023 release of new shades of the Afterglow Sensual Shine Lipstick and Afterglow Liquid Blush, plus the Afterglow Irresistible Eyeshadow Palette. NARS priced the lipstick and blush at $32 each and put the collection on narscosmetics.com starting December 24, 2023.

What Is in the Sweet Sensations Collection?

According to NARS's announcement:

• Afterglow Sensual Shine Lipstick ($32): a color-meets-care hybrid lip formula with dimensional shine, antioxidants for lip protection, and mango and shea butter for smoothness and 8-hour hydration.
• Afterglow Liquid Blush ($32): a radiant surge of color with hydrating skincare benefits, a silky formula that layers and blends without streaking, and a natural-looking glow.
• Afterglow Irresistible Eyeshadow Palette: the eyeshadow piece of the collection.

How Has the Afterglow Lipstick Changed Since Launch?

On NARS's current product page, the Afterglow Sensual Shine Lipstick is $36 (shown on sale at $32.40 when we checked), 1.5 g / 0.05 oz, in 20 shades. NARS lists shea butter, mango seed oil and its Monoï Hydrating Complex (coconut oil, gardenia tahitensis flower extract and squalene). NARS now describes "all-day hydration" and sheer-to-medium coverage with a high-shine finish; the 2023 announcement said 8-hour hydration.

Our take: the lipstick is still sold in a 20-shade range, so it appears to be part of NARS's regular lineup, and the "collection" label at launch mostly meant new shades, not a one-off formula.

Is the Collection Still Available?

We couldn't confirm that. The lipstick is on sale in a 20-shade range, but we did not confirm the Liquid Blush lineup on NARS's site (search results describe nine shades) or whether the Afterglow Irresistible Eyeshadow Palette is still sold. Check narscosmetics.com for the palette.

Confirmed: the launch products, prices and December 24 date come from NARS's announcement. The lipstick's current price, size, shades and ingredients are from NARS's page.

Not confirmed: the palette's price and stock, the Liquid Blush's current price, and which lipstick and blush shades were the "new" ones.

NARS's Holiday 2023 collection has five headline pieces, led by the $60 All That Glitters Light Reflecting Cheek Palette and the $49 Endless Nights Eyeshadow Palette. It was revealed in September 2023, with sales expected to start in October 2023 on narscosmetics.com.

What Is in the NARS Holiday 2023 Collection?

According to NARS's announcement:

• All That Glitters Light Reflecting Cheek Palette: six Light Reflecting Blush shades in glitter-decorated limited-edition packaging, from metallic pink to shimmering rose gold to satin peach, with a radiant, soft-focus effect and up to 8 hours of wear.
• Endless Nights Eye Shadow Palette: nine shades from shimmering neutrals to pops of pink and purple.
• After Party Light Reflecting Setting Powder: a translucent powder with NARS's Light Reflecting Complex, for a smooth, uniform look.
• Golden Spark case: a metallic gold compact designed for the Pure Radiant Protection Aquatic Glow Cushion Foundation SPF50+/PA+++.
• Starlight Power Matte Lipstick: two popular Power Matte shades in a silver glitter holiday package.

Which Pieces Are Actually New?

Our take: the two palettes and the setting powder are the main new products. The Golden Spark item is a case for an existing cushion foundation, and the Starlight lipsticks are two existing Power Matte shades in holiday packaging. If you already own those, the collection's value is mostly the packaging.

What Did the Prices Look Like?

Launch coverage from Musings of a Muse reports $60 for the cheek palette and $49 for the eyeshadow palette. We did not find prices for the powder, the case or the lipsticks in the sources we could read.

Is It Still Available?

This was a limited-edition holiday release, so the collection may be sold out or discontinued. NARS's site is the place to check for current stock. We did not re-check it.

NARS's Light Reflecting Eye Brightener is a creamy under-eye makeup-skincare hybrid in six shades that NARS says brightens for up to 24 hours. It launched in August 2023 at $34, and NARS's site now lists it at $38, showing a sale price of $34.20 when we checked.

Our take: two shades (Magic Hour and Sunfire) cover the medium-deep to deep area, and only one, Amulet, is labeled simply deep. If you're between depths, swatch in store, since we haven't tried the shades ourselves.

What Does It Do?

NARS says it targets dark circles and dullness with a creamy, crease-resistant texture that glides on with sheer, buildable coverage, for a lifted, awakened look with brightness that lasts up to 24 hours. The ingredients NARS highlights are chromatic pearls, bidens pilosa extract and hyaluronic filling spheres. The launch announcement also mentioned ingredients to improve skin elasticity, strengthen the skin barrier and lock in moisture.

How Should You Read the Claims?

NARS cites a consumer study of 61 women in which 95% agreed it was easy to apply over or under foundation and 93% agreed it blends easily. Our take: that is a brand-run, self-reported study with a small group, so it says something about ease of use, not about long-term results.

Not confirmed: the page text we read didn't show a star rating or review count, and we haven't tested the 24-hour claim.
